FEATURED EVENT: LEWITT X 2 AT AMOA

Austin Museum of Art Downtown presents LeWitt x 2. This two part exhibition focuses both on the artworks of Sol LeWitt and on his personal collection of contemporary art. Sol LeWitt: Structure and Line documents the full arc of the artist’s career. Renowned for his contribution to minimalism and conceptual art, LeWitt’s pencil drawings, brilliantly colored gouaches, and “structures” made of wood, aluminum, and fiberglass have defined and pushed the limits of art-making for over forty years. Throughout his career critics have admired how his work synthesizes left and right brain creativity and provokes both intellectual and emotional responses. Selections from the LeWitt Collection showcases works by an exciting array of national and international artists including Alice Aycock, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Alighiero Boetti, Chuck Close, Gilbert & George, Hans Haacke, Eva Hesse, On Kawara, Shirin Neshat, and Robert Ryman.

LeWitt x 2
AMOA Downtown
823 Congress Avenue at 9th Street
Through August 17

Austin Responds
Thursday, July 10th 7:00 p.m.
Join Austin composer and multi-instrumentalist Graham Reynolds for a piano performance of his original composition inspired by systems, structures, and simplicity of the art of Sol LeWitt. For more information about Graham Reynolds.

THE BLANTON PRESENTS THE LANGUAGE OF PRINTS

The Language of Prints

Prints are the most frequently experienced but least understood works of art. In the history of art, and most exhibitions, the medium is usually presented in terms of its great masters, from Albrecht Durer through Jasper Johns, or explained solely in terms of technique. Instead, The Language of Prints exhibit explores the medium as a uniquely rich and largely collective system of expression, a “language” with distinctive principles, persistent tendencies, and special processes that are shared across time and space. Planned to coincide with the annual meeting of The Print Council of America, the first ever in the state of Texas, the exhibition will feature around 100 of the collection’s finest and most distinctive prints.

The Language of Prints
April 19 through August 17
